Governor George Truitt

b. 1756, d. 1818

George Truitt was governor of Delaware from 1808 until 1811. In 1788, Truitt sold a lot to Zadock Truitt. It was in this deed that the name “Camden” first appeared. Previously, the town was known as Piccadilly and Mifflin’s Crossroads. It is not known why the name was changed to Camden, or by whom.
