Union Academy

104 South Main St.

The Union Academy was located at 104 South Main St. on the north side of the old Methodist Cemetery. It was a private school that only taught students of Camden and the surrounding areas. The school continued until 1857 when the public school was destroyed by fire. In 1885 the State of Delaware bought and renovated the building. It was used as the public school until the Caesar Rodney School District was formed in 1916. The stone on the side of the building which said “Camden” was given to the Caesar Rodney School District and has been encased on a wall inside of the Caesar Rodney District office.
