Daniel Mifflin

Daniel Mifflin is considered to be the founder of the town of Camden. In 1780, Daniel’s brother, Warner, bought 436 acres of land that was a part of the tract called Brecknock. Warner then sold 112 acres to Daniel, who divided the land into plots between one and eleven acres, which he sold. Mifflin retained the northwest corner upon which he built a hotel, a tavern, and a store. He also built a house located at 12 North Main St. He originally called the town Piccadilly, then Mifflin’s Crossroads. In 1788, it became Camden.
