The National Hotel

The National Hotel, a three-story building, was built by Daniel Mifflin probably in the late 1780s or 1790s. It served as a stagecoach stop for people going to Dover, Lewes, and points south. Sometime in the 1900s, it was converted to apartments with the south end converted to a grocery store and later used as a dental office. The hotel was sold to the town and was torn down in 1963.

This property is currently a parking lot for the town with a clock dedicated to Mary Ann Teller (née Simpson). There is also a bench placed by the Dyer family in memory of James Ronald Bennett, Margaret Olive Bennett, Bonnie Bennett Dyer and Nancy Ann Bennett.
